A Message from Our Chairman:

Hello y’all, my name is Van Owens. I’m the Chairman of the Arkansas League of the South.

Let me extend a warm welcome to all of my fellow Arkansans. At the Arkansas League of the South, we have a vested interest in the makeup of the membership “looking like Arkansas.” Thus we welcome all people, regardless of race, to join our ranks. We must work together to move beyond the past and concentrate on the possibilities of the future.

If we Southerners concentrate and dwell on unpleasant chapters of the past it will get us nowhere. For instance, how will it help Black Southerners if they concentrate on slavery? Or what benefit will they obtain by reliving past discrimination? How will that solve the problems they face today? Likewise, how will it help Native American Southerners if they concentrate on the broken treaties and murderous treatment they received at the hands of the U.S. government during the 19th century? Or how will it help White Southerners if they concentrate on the plunder, rape, and destruction and theft of personal property that their innocent civilian citizens received at the hands of the Yankee invaders during the War for Southern Independence (i.e. the so-called “Civil War”)?

How will today’s Southerners benefit by constantly dwelling on things such as these? The answer, of course, is that today’s problems will not be solved by dwelling on the past. So why, I ask rhetorically, do the much vaunted “civil-rights” leaders of our day continue to hold on to the evils of the past?

It is because these so-called leaders profit handsomely from their race baiting. And while they profit, minority children suffer from an extremely high rate of abortion, broken homes, drugs, gangs, violence and hopelessness.

We ask our fellow Southern minority brethren to quit turning to these con artists. We can’t change the past, but we can make the future one of hope for our children.

Today’s extremely high rate of children growing up in broken homes is a tragedy that needs attention NOW! The senselessly high rate of abortion is another tragedy that demands our attention. Where is the leadership from the so-called “civil-rights” leaders on tragedies of our day such as these? You can probably find them marching on some street corner denouncing a Confederate symbol or sitting with pandering politicians discussing how to deliver the minority vote in the next election. But you won’t find them actually making life better for minorities!

We ask that you join with us to create a South in which all races work together to solve our problems hand in hand and arm in arm. We don’t need the government to work out our problems for us. We don’t need them to correct the evils of the past. It is up to us to look forward and solve our own problems. Indeed, their remedies have played a large part in destroying our culture and families. Thus we ask that you join us in denouncing such grand schemes as “affirmative action,” which is merely government sanctioned discrimination.

So I say with passion, “all are welcome, Red and Yellow, Black and White. Let’s not discriminate against each other, be it government sanctioned or otherwise!”

We seek members with a spirit of Christian charity toward all others, including our Red and Yellow, black and White brothers and sisters. Black people are a part of the South, have been, and always will be. Black Southerners have contributed immeasurably to the building of our country. Black and white Southerners share a common culture, including religious faith, manners, and attitudes toward life that are part of our distinctiveness. We encourage black Southerners to become members.

It is my great desire that we put divisiveness aside and take God’s word to heart. 2 Chronicles 7:14 states, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

We desperately need our land to be healed. A true return to the God of our fathers is the only hope for ALL men, and for our Southland. Come join us, ALL are welcome. Let’s say with one loud voice, "You will not play us off each other any more!! We will stand united in solving our own problems and in restoring our God-Given liberties."
